Learn about basic music theory as a pre-requisite to the level courses and improvisation course or just to learn some basics.

You will learn to:

  • Read and write the following note values and equivalent rests ta, ta-a, ti ti, tika tika, taam, tim-ka – crotchets, minims, quavers, semi quavers, dotted crotchet

  • Clap rhythmic patterns using these note values

  • Read and write the notes in the treble clef

  • Understand time signatures 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8 and how to read, write and perform rhythms for these

  • Understand the following scales, chords and keys and intervallic relationships – C, F and G major; A, D and E minor
